The Light Bulb Drama
The federal Energy Bill passed by Congress in 2007 dictates that all conventional light bulbs be replaced by LED or Compact Flourescent bulbs by 2014. As John Brock in the Waccamaw Times states: "The new bulbs are extremely expensive, American-made bulbs are non-existent and no private citizens can sensibly dispose of a burnt-out bulb in accordance with extensive government regulations".
http://commonsenselogic.blogspot.com/2008/06/congressman-ted-poe-regarding-energy.html
These new bulbs contain Mercury, a heavy metal that is extremely dangerous to our health, and believe it or not, Congress dictated the end of the use of Mercury in thermometers many years ago.
As John Brock says, "The U.S. Constitution doesn't give Congress the power to regulate light bulbs in homes or elsewhere".
This Republic is going the way of the Dodo bird.

Greenpeace Targets Your Behind
An article at "guardian.co.uk" yesterday stated the following, citing an official from the Greenpeace organization:
"The tenderness of the delicate American buttock is causing more environmental devastation than the country's love of gas-guzzling cars, fast food or McMansions, according to green campaigners. At fault, they say, is the US public's insistence on extra-soft, quilted and multi-ply products when they use the bathroom."
I was getting a little uneasy, that maybe the current administration had heard of this, until I came upon the following at "heraldsun.com.au":
"Natural living” advocates unveil their latest planet-saving invention - the reusable toilet wipe.
Surely it’s time global warming believers marked their houses with some sign, a green pentacle or something, as a warning to visitors to enter at their own risk."

Cap - Trade
Congress is about to consider a Cap-Trade bill that will. in effect, create more business shutdowns with resultant loss of jobs, all for the purpose of transferring more control of the economy to the government.
Businesses will be taxed for carbon-dioxide emissions in the guise of controlling global warming. My guess is that your electricity bill will skyrocket since much of it is coal produced thus carbon-dioxide emissions are high. I guess in ten years or so the utilities could go nuclear. Maybe not, since the liberals in charge are blocking all nuclear development.
This is not really a "save the planet" thing, the same as the proposed $4 gas tax was not a ploy to get rid of gas guzzling cars. The Administration wants to control the economy and take away our freedoms by making everyone dependent on the Government. Who will be left to pay? No matter, hyper-inflation will take care of that and no one's savings will be worth a nickel.
Update: April 7, 2009 - The moderates in the Senate seem to be a little nervous about this one, and at this time, appear to have enough votes to keep the bill from passing.

Phoenix Security-USA Problem
News yesterday indicated that the kidnappings in Phoenix have risen to over 600 from 300 a few years ago. This is attributed to "kidnaps for ransom" by drug cartel members who are mostly illegal aliens. In many major metropolitan areas, over 20% of the jail inmates are illegal aliens.
If we Americans want to restore law and order to our shores and not become a country fearful for our family's safety, we must insist that our government protect its citizens. This is the first and formost responsibility of our government acording to the Constitution.

Inflation
Today, President Obama, promised another $17 billion of taxpayers money for Medicaid. Of course the Fed will be borrowing this money from who knows where. As soon as other countries stop lending to the USA, then the Government will resort to the good old printing press. Remember the good old days in South America when they had 200% - 500% and above Hyperinflation? $100 for a quart of milk will sound good then. Of course, everyone that is retired and on fixed incomes will be destitute.
Change that we voted for.

Integrity in Government
Over the years, both Democrats and Republicans have been caught with their "fingers in the till" and other problems. There is an email that has been going around for years showing how many of our representatives have gone bankrup, been arrested for various law violations, etc. but still the "People" tend to show confidence in their elected officials and re-elect them year after year. That is because they have made the laws to favor the incumbent and all the lobbyists know where the power is.
Perhaps we should have term limitations in Congress the same as for the Presidency. This would be a way of getting the deadwood out.
As an aside, there was a referendum in Venezuela last week that was the reverse of this and Chavez won. He can now run for re-election as many times as he wants. Goodbye freedom.

Mortgage Bailout II
The President seems concerned with those people with mortgages higher than the current market value of their homes (or second and vacation homes). Most responsible people who borrow money think they should pay it back and do not go to their neighbors for help.
People who were frugal and have saved for the future have investments that cost more than they are now worth. Maybe the government should make them whole too.
Come to think of it, no one is left to pay for this.

Card Check
Congress is said to be putting the labor union card check bill up for a vote sometime in April. Basically, this bill would take away the rights of the worker to a secret ballot on whether or not to unionize. Union organizers would have to intimidate only 50+% of the workers into signing and the company would be unionized.
Polls show that even a majority of current union members do not want this. However, the current administration and Congress owe the unions big time for their support in the recent elections.
Another example of Big Government trying to take away the individual's liberties.

Mortgage Bailout
Today, President Obama set forth his proposed bailout for those who overextended themselves when buying a home (Incedentally, this was encouraged by the government since the days of Clinton). It appears the banks will take it on the chin thus negating the loans given by the government a few weeks ago so they will need more loans. The 30% mortgage payment to income ratio will be the stallward of the plan and will allow all taxpayers to participate in paying for other peoples excesses, even those who have bought $1 million dollar homes and own boats, luxury cars, etc.
This is furthering the hold the government has on these people thus moving the USA away from it's Constitutional form of government, a Republic.

The Liberal Welfare State
The Heritage Foundation exposed a widening of the welfare state incorporated in the "Stimulus Bill" that speeds the drift away from the Republic our forefathers envisioned. (The following from their website)
The 1996 welfare reform bill changed the way government treated welfare. But last week the Left reverted back to the liberal welfare state in the “stimulus” bill. Hidden in the bill was a massive increase in welfare spending. While the 1996 reforms gave states more money if they moved people OFF welfare, the new policy gives states more money if more people stay ON welfare
