ARE WE RELIGION ILLITERATE?

Excerpt: If you’re an atheist or agnostic, you might know the most about religion in America. That’s just one of the surprising finds in a new study by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, as reported by CNN. The Pew gauged America’s religious knowledge by using a quiz.

Among the findings:

Most Americans scored 50 percent or less on a quiz measuring knowledge of the Bible, world religions and what the Constitution says about religion in public life.

Those who believe the Bible is the literal word of God did slightly worse than average, while those who say it is not the word of God scored slightly better.

It’s not Bible-belt Southerners who scored highest – they came at the bottom.

Barely half of all Catholics know that when they take communion, the bread and wine literally become the body and blood of Christ, according to Catholic doctrine.

Only eight of the 3,412 survey respondents got all 32 questions right. Six got them all wrong.
While people with a high level of religious commitment do better than average on the religion questions, people with low levels of religious commitment do better than average on the general knowledge questions (which were included for comparison purposes).

The Big Money & The Global Governance Agenda That Fuels Environmentalism - Part I

The Washington Examiner is publishing a five-part special report in association with Pajamas Media on “Big Green”: the alliance of the Democratic Party, environmental groups, and activists in the progressive movement. It’s not just a band of flannel-shirted environmentalists any longer; it’s become a big-money, major player in Washington power politics and American elections. This is the first of PJTV’s special reports on the power, money and impact of Big Green on our national policy and economy.

DOJ Whistleblower: Obama Administration is Planning November Vote Fraud

As I've commented in the past, selective enforcement of the laws passed by Congress, is in fact, making Congress irrelevant. The Holder DOJ has an agenda, one that is not to protect all of the citizenry of the US equally, but a political agenda to promote progressive causes.

More Economic Bad News: The ‘New Normal’ is Here to Stay

The general premise of this Fiscal Times article is that the 2008-2010 downturn is not an anomaly but the start of a "New Normal", where recovery is not a "certain" and the process of clawing our way back to prosperity will not be a given.

Certainly, we have to improve our education process to ensure that the US has the talent to compete in the world market. Governor Chris Cristie of NJ has the teachers unions in his sights and, if successful, could be a model for our educational revolution.

The Tea Party is taking on big government, challenging the progressive movement and, if successful, over time, will elect candidates that will cut the size of government and reduce spending and the tax burden on our economy. The resultant reduction of our deficits will lessen the inflationary effects on the dollar and give businesses the incentive to invest in the future.

We have a long way to go to dig ourselves out of the hole the Democrats dug by their promotion of sub-prime mortgages and their refusal to recognize the warnings put up by the Bush administration. That hole is deep and still has not bottomed out and the Democrats still do not recognize the dangers to the economy that they are promoting.

Only a return to fiscally responsible, Constitutional government, can save us from the "New Normal" described in this Fiscal Times article.

Excerpt:
“Since the birth of the republic, we have been through mishaps much worse than 2008: a revolution that nearly wiped out our credit, a civil war, the libertarian valhalla of the 19th century that saw several depressions as bad as the thirties, the Great Depression itself, and two world wars.”

Over those tumultuous 200 years, the trend in per capita economic growth has been remarkably steady, and so has the return on capital. Stocks have averaged 6 percent a year over inflation since 1802, according to Wharton professor Jeremy Siegel, or 9 percent a year since 1927 according to the oft-quoted Ibbotson survey. American history, in other words, favors optimists.

But what if history is bunk? The America of 2010 — aging, indebted, overextended and under-educated — is not the fresh-faced republic of 1802, with a continent to exploit and a population surging from immigration. Nor is it the victor of WWII, the only developed nation that escaped the war’s destruction. Economic win streaks do come to an end. Just ask Britain. Or Japan.

Washington and Wall Street are coming around to the idea that the economic future we’re stumbling towards will be far less generous from the normality we long for. The “New Normal” — a disarmingly benign term coined by Mohamed El-Erian, co-chief investment officer of the big California investment firm Pimco — envisions a future of sluggish growth, international discord, increased uncertainty and minuscule returns on capital. Government revenues shrink while spending remains high.

The 8 percent historic returns projected into the future by many corporate and state pension funds (and those retirement calculators offered by your 401(k) administrator) never materialize. The fiscal implication: Pension funds that are a trillion dollars underfunded at 8 percent returns actually face shortfalls two or three times as large. And the mind-boggling $6.6 trillion Retirement Income Gap — the difference between what the nation has saved and what it should have saved, as calculated by a coalition known as Retirement USA — may actually be understated.

Ryder Cup TV Schedule 2010

This from Brent's Golf Blog

What's the Ryder Cup TV schedule for the 2010 matches? NBC televises the matches on the weekend in the United States, and has made a decision to air the Saturday matches on tape delay rather than live. Of course, in America the matches will be starting in the middle of the night - but plenty of golf fans on this side of the pond probably wish they had the option to watch live golf.
But that's just one of three days; Friday's and Sunday's matches will be available live on TV in America.

United States Ryder Cup TV Schedule 2010
Friday: ESPN, 2:30 a.m.-1 p.m. (ET)
Saturday:NBC, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. (ET), tape delay
Sunday: NBC, 7 a.m.-1 p.m. (ET)

United Kingdom Ryder Cup TV Schedule 2010
Sky Sports 1 is televising the matches live each day, and BBC 2 has evening highlight shows (7:30 p.m.-10 p.m. Friday/Saturday and 7:30-9:30 on Sunday, all BST). Additionally, in Wales, S4C will have evening highlights shows, 7-8 p.m. (BST) Friday-Saturday and 6:30-7:30 on Sunday.

The live coverage on Sky Sports 1 is scheduled thusly (times BST):
Friday: 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
Saturday: 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
Sunday: 10 a.m.-7 p.m.

The European Ryder Cup site has a page with broadcast times that, as I write this post, lists only the UK times. It will likely be updated at some point with other European viewing options. But any readers around the world who want to post your local viewing options can do so in the comments to this post.

Connecticut Home Invasion - The Death Penalty - No Cruel And Unusual Punishment Here!

It is hard for me to believe anyone would believe that the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment in this case. But those liberals who allow millions of babies to be aborted will probably protest any call for the death penalty here.

Excerpt:
Prosecutors say Komisarjevsky spotted Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her daughters at a supermarket on July 22 and followed them home, then returned with Hayes early the next day to rob the family. Komisarjevsky is awaiting trial.

Hayes and Komisarjevsky, two paroled burglars, are accused of beating and tying up Dr. William Petit, taking his family hostage and forcing his wife to withdraw money from a bank.

Hayes, 47, is accused of sexually assaulting and strangling Hawke-Petit. Komisarjevsky, 30, is charged with sexually assaulting 11-year-old Michaela. The two allegedly tied Michaela and her 17-year-old sister, Hayley, to their beds, poured gasoline on and around them and set the house on fire, killing the girls, authorities say.

Dr. Petit managed to escape.

Hayes and Komisarjevsky fled the burning home in the family's car and were caught after ramming several police cruisers, authorities said.

Connecticut's medical examiner, Wayne Carver, testified Thursday that Hayley's injuries suggested she was burned as she tried to flee, despite being tied up.

Carver said Hayley was found lying facedown in a hallway but the front of her clothing was more severely burned than the back. Carver said Hayley had been tied up but somehow made it to the hallway and was exposed to the flames. She died from smoke inhalation, he said.

Carver testified Wednesday that Michaela died from breathing smoke and likely had a painful, panic-stricken death.

Hawke-Petit was strangled before the fire, Dr. Susan Williams, associate medical examiner testified. She said victims of strangulation typically become unconscious after 8 to 15 seconds.

A juror wept after looking at autopsy photos of Hawke-Petit.

Christie Announces Sweeping N.J. Education Reform

What a lot of people have seen as being obvious and have been talking about for a long, long time, is being done by Governor Chris Christie of NJ. Full speed ahead.

OLD BRIDGE, N.J. (CBS 2) — Determined to turn New Jersey’s education system on its head, Gov. Chris Christie on Tuesday unveiled a tough-love reform package that will make classroom achievement — not seniority or tenure — the basis for pay hikes and career advancement in Garden State public schools.

Christie is turning his take-no-prisoner’s style to the classroom, demanding a top to bottom overhaul of how New Jersey students learn and teachers teach. And that means undoing tenure, seniority and other union work rules.

“We cannot wait. Your children are sitting in these classrooms today. We cannot wait to make it better,” Christie told CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer.

Unqualified teachers will feel the lash. The governor is demanding that teachers in kindergarten through fifth grade actually pass tests in reading and math in order to be certified.

“It might lead to the firing of lousy teachers and bad principals who hurt our children,” Christie said.

The governor wants to turn the old seniority system inside out and put quality teaching ahead of lack-luster performance. He will:

* Prohibit salary scales based on seniority
* Grant raises based on classroom performance
* Give tenure based on classroom performance

“We are paying a fortune for something that is not giving our children the hope and the faith and the trust that their tomorrow can be better than their today,” Christie said.
The governor said he would appoint a task force to come up with standards to measure teacher achievement.

Educational experts applauded the governor’s actions.

“He is with excellence in education for everyone by prioritizing teachers — their brilliance, their art and their skills. We will dramatically improve the quality of education of our kids in New Jersey, particularly our neediest ones,” said Derrell Bradford, director of Excellent Education for Everyone.

The governor needs the state Legislature to approve the changes to seniority and tenure. The rest of the things he did by signing executive orders.

A spokesman for the New Jersey Education Association attacked the governor’s plan saying that once again he was “trying to implement education reform without any input from educators.”

'Credible But Not Specific' Threat of New Terrorist Attack

Excerpt: US and European officials said Tuesday they have detected a plot to carry out a major, coordinated series of commando-style terror attacks in Britain, France, Germany and possibly the United States.

A senior US official said that while there is a "credible" threat, no specific time or place is known. President Obama has been briefed about the threat, say senior US officials.

Intelligence and law enforcement authorities in the US and Europe said the threat information is based on the interrogation of a suspected German terrorist allegedly captured on his way to Europe in late summer and now being held at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.

US law enforcement officials say they have been told the terrorists were planning a series of "Mumbai-style" commando raids on what were termed "economic or soft" targets in the countries. Pakistani militants killed 173 people with guns and grenades during the 2008 attacks in Mumbai, India.

Obama Pressuring Pastors To Use Sunday Sermons To Say Obamacare Ordered By God

Obama will use anything and anyone to further his political agenda and will never close any government office and reduce his propaganda army. Read the entire article to get the gist of what the faith-based initiatives program was intended to accomplish and what it has done, or will be doing under Obama. Vote in November.

Excerpt:
If the White House office of faith-based initiatives is going to be used as propaganda unit, it might as well be shut down.

I was George W. Bush’s director of faith-based initiatives. Imagine what would have happened had I proposed that he use that office to urge thousands of religious leaders to become “validators” of the Iraq War?

I can tell you two things that would have happened immediately. First, President Bush would have fired me—and rightly so—for trying to politicize his faith-based office. Second, the American media would have chased me into the foxhole Saddam Hussein had vacated.

Yet on Tuesday President Obama and his director of faith-based initiatives convened exactly such a meeting to try to control political damage from the unpopular health-care law. “Get out there and spread the word,” Politico.com reported the president as saying on a conference call with leaders of faith-based and community groups. “I think all of you can be really important validators and trusted resources for friends and neighbors, to help explain what’s now available to them.”

Since then, there’s been nary a peep from the press.

According to the White House website, the faith-based office exists “to more effectively serve Americans in need.” I guess that now means Americans in need of Democratic talking points on health care. Do we really want taxpayer-funded bureaucrats mobilizing ministers to go out to all the neighborhoods and spread the good news of universal coverage?

Harry Reid - The Hidden Candidate

Illegal Immigration Is No Joke

Lt. Col. Buzz Patterson On Obama

The item that surprised me the most in this interview was the statement that Jodie Evans, head of Code Pink and chief fundraiser for Obama in California, raised over $600,000 and delivered it personally to the insurgents in Iraq. It was used to buy weapons to kill US soldiers and was, most likely, an act of treason.

Six US Airmen - Aliens Have Deactivated US And British Minuteman Missiles

Aliens have landed, infiltrated British nuclear missile sites and deactivated the weapons, according to US military pilots in an interview with the UK Telegraph.

Excerpt:
he beings have repeated their efforts in the US and have been active since 1948, the men said, and accused the respective governments of trying to keep the information secret.

The unlikely claims were compiled by six former US airmen and another member of the military who interviewed or researched the evidence of 120 ex-military personnel.

The information they have collected suggests that aliens could have landed on Earth as recently as seven years ago.

The men's aim is to press the two governments to recognise the long-standing extra-terrestrial visits as fact.

They are to be presented on Monday 27 September at a meeting in Washington.
One of the men, Capt Robert Salas, said: "The US Air Force is lying about the national security implications of unidentified aerial objects at nuclear bases and we can prove it."
He said said he witnessed such an event first-hand on March 16, 1967, at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana which housed Minuteman nuclear missiles.

Capt Salas continued: "I was on duty when an object came over and hovered directly over the site.

"The missiles shut down - 10 Minuteman missiles. And the same thing happened at another site a week later. There's a strong interest in our missiles by these objects, wherever they come from. I personally think they're not from planet Earth."

Others claim to have seen similar activity in the UK.

How to Lose an Election - Conservatives Sound The Alarm

This American Thinker article by Paul Shlichta is a blueprint for the conservative approach for the coming elections. Make no mistake, the Democrats have a plethora of dirty tricks up their sleeves and Conservatives must be proactive and not let them dictate the agenda. Read the entire article and then "walk the walk".

Excerpt:
I always admired Thomas E. Dewey for publicly admitting that he had managed to "snatch defeat from the jaws of victory" in the 1948 election [1]. Let us hope that we don't have to make the same confession this November.

This year, the omens are favorable, with voters and donations seeming to shift toward the Republicans. However, just in case the conservative-Tea Party-Republican majority of America wants two more years of Democratic domination, here is a well-proven formula for losing an election -- one that we seem to be following at the moment:

1. Divide and be conquered.
2. Let your opponent set the agenda.
3. Ignore your opponent's dirty tricks.
4. Don't bother to get out the vote.
5. After the election, overestimate your victory.

Legal Theft - The Rape Of The People Through Litigation - Promote "Loser Pays"

Stossel's program last evening was an excellent review of the damaging effects of nuisance and class action litigation on the economy, innovation, and defendants. And, of course, who is the major beneficiary of the settlements? The lawyers. Contingency fees range from 20 to 30 percent, and fees and expenses in major class action suits are in the millions.

I received a settlement notice the other day as follows:

Alliance Capital Management - market timing and late trading
Settlement: $74,586,650 before $16,409,000 (22%) attorney's fees and expenses
Plaintiffs recovery from $0.0007 to $0.3655 (less the 22%) per share depending on which fund invested in.

If you owned 100 shares of this investment, you could receive anywhere from $.07 to $36.55. WOW!

The lawyers received the $16,4 million. Also the companies and insurers have to pay their own legal expenses which are not included in the $16.4 million above.

Who was hurt? Obviously everyone except the lawyers. The companies, the companies' investors, the companies' customers who pay higher prices, the insurers, everyone who insures themselves against these suits at ever increasing costs.

Nuisance suits are also clogging court dockets and destroying individual defendant's financial stability whether guilty or not. One example used on the Stossel segment was the dry cleaner who lost a lawyer's pants. He is suing for millions of dollars and the court did not throw the case out. It has been going on for over a year and the defendants have had to sell 2 of their 3 cleaning locations to cover the cost of their defense.

The lawyer has nothing to lose but time, and I am sure, hoped for a quick settlement. The immigrants that own the cleaners are losing everything.

Many of these nuisance suits are settled by the individuals or their insurers even though innocent. The high cost of litigation in many cases makes a settlement the least cost option. Many litigants rely on this.

According to Stossel, most of Europe has what they call "loser pays".

This is an extract from an article at Reason.com titled "Civil Suits":

Balance out the rule's theoretical vices with its virtues. The first is fairness. If someone drags you to court and costs you plenty in legal fees, and you finally show you were right, why should they walk away? If they'd hurt you in any other way, wouldn't they have to compensate you?

The practical case for loser-pays is equally compelling. Litigants naturally think too well of their cases; loser-pays pushes them to size up their prospects more realistically. It also curbs the brand of extortion, so routine in American law as almost to have lost its ethical taint, by which lawyers use the costs of the process itself, or the risk of a fluke outcome found in any trial, to strong-arm their opponents into settlement. Such abuse runs in both directions: Many plaintiffs with shoddy claims get paid off, while many defendants who are liable as charged get off with paying less than full freight by threatening to inflict the cost of trial. Thus valid legal claims are often paid earlier and more fully in Europe than here. Although the ABA calls loser-pays a "tax on the right to litigate," it could just as easily be called a subsidy for litigating in a rightful cause.

Society has good reason to discourage unnecessary litigation. Aside from their appalling expense, lawsuits are acrimonious and divisive, a breach of the social peace. They may be an inevitable part of life, but they needn't cost as much as here, and in fact they cost far less in Europe. Liability insurance also costs less there, as a share of the economy, by a factor of two-and-a-half or three to one, resulting in big savings for driv-ers, municipal taxpayers, business owners, and so on. Lawyers are far fewer in number and less powerful.

Those that say "loser pays" would prohibit the underprivileged their day in court, are, per Stossel, misinformed. Insurance policies can be purchased for very nominal amounts to cover them in case they lose.

It is about time the US goes to this system and removes these useless costs from the American economy.

Unfortunately, we have an obstacle in the way of any such legislation. 36.7% or 162 of 441 members of the House of Representatives are lawyers. Also 54% or 54 of 100 Senators are lawyers. On a State level, I don't know if the same relationship exists but it is probably close.

This would be a perfect addition to any tort reform legislation the new Congress undertakes.

Citizens' Group Helps Uncover Alleged Rampant Voter Fraud in Houston

Again SEIU, the ACORN affiliate and public employees union is mentioned in voter registration fraud. This is the same Union whose head has direct access to President Obama. The SEIU man in charge of the registration said there were some "mistakes" made. Yeah, 40 registered voters in an 8 bed halfway house is some "mistake".

The article doesn't really comment on the fire that destroyed the voting machines. I would be very suspicious of arson and would check out the machines that survived to see if there was anything illegal going on in the programming for the next election.

Excerpt:
The group called for help and quickly got 30 donated computers and “tens of thousands of hours” of volunteer work. And then the questions started to arise.

“Vacant lots had several voters registered on them. An eight-bed halfway house had more than 40 voters registered at its address,” Engelbrecht said. “We then decided to look at who was registering the voters."

Their work paid off. Two weeks ago the Harris County voter registrar took their work and the findings of his own investigation and handed them over to both the Texas secretary of state’s office and the Harris County district attorney.

Most of the findings focused on a group called Houston Votes, a voter registration group headed by Steve Caddle, who also works for the Service Employees International Union. Among the findings were that only 1,793 of the 25,000 registrations the group submitted appeared to be valid. The other registrations included one of a woman who registered six times in the same day; registrations of non-citizens; so many applications from one Houston Voters collector in one day that it was deemed to be beyond human capability; and 1,597 registrations that named the same person multiple times, often with different signatures.

Caddle told local newspapers that there “had been mistakes made,” and he said he had fired 30 workers for filing defective voter registration applications. He could not be reached for this article.

“The integrity of the voting rolls in Harris County, Texas, appears to be under an organized and systematic attack by the group operating under the name Houston Votes,” the Harris voter registrar, Leo Vasquez, charged as he passed on the documentation to the district attorney. A spokesman for the DA's office declined to discuss the case. And a spokesman for Vasquez said that the DA has asked them to refrain from commenting on the case.

The outcome of the efforts grew in importance the day after Vasquez made his announcement. On the morning of Aug. 27, a three-alarm fire destroyed almost all of Harris County’s voting machines, throwing the upcoming Nov. 2 election into turmoil. While the cause wasn’t determined, the $40 million blaze, according to press reports, means election officials will be focused on creating a whole new voting system in six weeks. Just how they do it will determine how vulnerable the process becomes.

Coates Negates a Year of Justice Department Spin on New Black Panther Case

I would recommend you read the entire article. If you believe that justice should be color blind and enforced equally, not selectively, then you will be appalled by this testimony.

Excerpt:
In a dramatic hearing in Washington, D.C., Coates simply destroyed the year-long spin from the Justice Department regarding the dismissal. Coates is the former Voting Section chief, and served as lead attorney on the Black Panther case. He has practiced voting rights law longer than any other lawyer at the Justice Department. His testimony today was the worst possible nightmare for the Obama political officials responsible for the dismissal.

I testified before the Commission in July that Obama political appointee Julie Fernandes made it clear that the Voting Section at the Justice Department would not be bringing any more cases against traditional national racial minorities, like the members of the New Black Panthers. Under oath, Coates corroborated my testimony.

The public has been wondering for over a year why the case was dismissed. Coates testified why today:

[There is a] deep-seated opposition to the race-neutral enforcement of the Voting Rights Act against racial minorities and for the protection of whites who have been discriminated against.

Coates verified that the DOJ is infested with racially motivated hostility towards equal enforcement of the law. Like me, Coates testified about the history of open and pervasive hostility inside the Voting Section to protecting the rights of white voters. This hostility first emerged in the case against Ike Brown in Noxubee County, Mississippi, going back as far as 2004:

The opposition within the Voting Section to taking actions on behalf of white voters in Noxubee County, Mississippi, … was widespread.

Coates confirmed that senior managers didn’t even want to open the investigation into discrimination against white voters in Noxubee County:

The Deputy Chief who was leading that election coverage asked me: “can you believe that we are going to Mississippi to protect white voters?”

Islamization' of Paris a Warning to the West

Fighting Terror: Do's and Don'ts for a Superpower:

Excerpt: This essay is extracted from Ralph Peters' new book, "When Devils Walk the Earth." It is a must-read. The man is prescient. If you focus on nothing else, peruse the last point; Number 25.

1. Be feared!

2. Identify the type of terrorists you face, and know your enemy as well as you possibly can. Although tactics may be similar, strategies for dealing with practical vs. apocalyptic terrorists can differ widely. Practical terrorists may have legitimate grievances that deserve consideration, although their methods cannot be tolerated. Apocalyptic terrorists, no matter their rhetoric, seek your destruction and must be killed to the last man. The apt metaphor is cancer: you cannot hope for success if you only cut out part of the tumor. For the apocalyptic terrorist, evading your efforts can easily be turned into a public triumph. Our bloodiest successes will create far fewer terrorists and sympathizers than our failures.

3. Do not be afraid to be powerful. Cold War-era gambits of proportionate response and dialog may have some utility in dealing with practical terrorists, but they are counter-productive in dealing with apocalyptic terrorists. Our great strengths are wealth and raw power. When we fail to bring those strengths to bear, we contribute to our own defeat. For a superpower to think small, which has been our habit across the last decade, at least, is self-defeating folly. Our responses to terrorist acts should make the world gasp!

4. Speak bluntly. Euphemisms are interpreted as weakness by our enemies and mislead the American people. Speak of killing terrorists and destroying their organizations. Timid speech leads to timid actions. Explain when necessary, but do not apologize. Expressions of regret are never seen as a mark of decency by terrorists or their supporters, but only as a sign that our will is faltering. Blame the terrorists as the root cause whenever operations have unintended negative consequences. Never go on the rhetorical defensive.

Obamacare is even worse than critics thought

This article in the Washington Examiner notes a number of Obama's "lies" made during the discussions prior to passage of ObamaCare. Read the entire article "Obamacare is even worse than critics thought".

Excerpt:
Six months ago, President Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rammed Obamacare down the throats of an unwilling American public. Half a year removed from the unprecedented legislative chicanery and backroom dealing that characterized the bill's passage, we know much more about the bill than we did then.

If you wonder why so many American voters are angry, and no longer give Obama the benefit of the doubt on a variety of issues, you need look no further than Obamacare, whose birthday gift to America might just be a GOP congressional majority.

Airplane Crash

I couldn't resist posting this one.

An airplane was about to crash; there were 5 passengers on board, but only
4 parachutes.

The first passenger said, "I am President Obama, the chosen one. The
world needs me, I can't afford to die." So he took the first parachute and
left the plane.

The second passenger, Nancy Pelosi, said, "I am the Speaker of the House.
And I am the smartest woman in American history, so America's people don't
want me to die." She took the second parachute and jumped out of the
plane.

The third passenger, John Kerry, said, "I'm a Senator, and a decorated war
hero from the Army of the United States of America." So he grabbed the
parachute next to him and jumped.

The fourth passenger, ex-President George W. Bush, said to the fifth
passenger, a 10-year-old schoolgirl, "I have lived a full life, and served my
country the best I could. I will sacrifice my life and let you have the
last parachute."

The little girl said, "That's okay, Mr. President. There's a parachute
left for you. America's smartest woman took my schoolbag."

Obama vs BP - Who Was The Smartest Man In The Room?

Received this email today and thought I would post it. I had received it a while back and ever since, it has nagged at me. Because of the complexity of our tax laws, it takes someone knowledgeable in the room to keep from getting suckered. Either Obama got suckered, or he negotiated one of those back room Chicago style deals. Either way, we the taxpayers took one on the chin.

It seemed like a miracle that our President was able to convince BP to establish a $20 billion escrow fund to compensate those hurt by the oil plume in the Gulf of Mexico . After all, he had no constitutional power to force them to do so; so had to resort to Chicago-style negotiating.

Ever wonder why BP made the concession so quickly?

Take a closer look at the effect on BP's finances for the answer:

1. BP will establish a $20 billion fund, but will pay only $7 billion into it during 2010.

2. BP is a British corporation, but has a very large operating entity in the US . However, only about 30% of its income is derived from the US.

3. By Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), BP must book the entire $20 billion expense in the year accrued. Therefore, they will book a $20 billion expense in 2010, reducing their US tax liability by $7 billion.

4. The President also convinced this massive corporation to show their concern for the "small people" by withholding dividends to their shareholders for the last 3 quarters of 2010. This reduces their outward cash flow by about $7.5 billion, including approximately 40% of that amount to US citizens. If the Bush tax cuts survive through 2010, the US Treasury will lose another $450 million in taxes on that amount. No need to even discuss the effect on the US economy.

Now, let's summarize the results into bullet points easily understood by all.

BP Cash Flow:

o Escrow funding ($7 billion)

o Dividend saving $7.5 billion

o Tax savings $7 billion

o Net favorable cash flow: $7.5 billion

US Treasury Tax Receipts:

o from BP Corporate income tax .... minus $7.5 billion

o from BP Shareholders' income tax ..... minus $0.45 billion

o Net loss of US dividend income tax receipts ..... minus $3.0 billion

o Total tax receipts loss: $10.95 billion. A huge hit!

Many feared this would happen. After all, our President was the most inexperienced man in the room.

Did he "Kick Ass", or did he get "Sucker Punched"? Or, is this another 'backroom deal' Obama negotiated which will ultimately get him a huge financial 'plum'? Should Obama be negotiating anything dealing with money and finances at all?

Bottom line: The $20 Billion BP is putting up will create a $7.5 Billion positive cash flow for BP this year and a $10.95 billion loss to our Treasury.

But, Obama actually thinks he really did something special and "kicked ass'.

In reality, BP executives are laughing at him and kicked his ass. He is in over his head when he starts dealing with savvy business people.

GM Resumes Political Giving

For a company that paid off taxpayer debt with taxpayer money, a company controlled by a corrupt government that stole from pensioners and investors to give to greedy unions, for them to use false "profits" to further the campaigns of union friendly Democrats (throwing in a token Republican) is no more than legalized theft.

Excerpt:
It isn't unusual for big companies like GM to spend on political campaigns, but complicating GM's situation is that the company is majority-owned by the U.S. government. GM is planning to return to the public stock markets later this year, allowing the U.S. to begin to sell off its roughly 61% stake in the company.

GM spokesman Greg Martin said the company stopped making political contributions in spring 2009 to focus on its taxpayer-financed bankruptcy reorganization.

"As we've emerged as a new company, we're not going to sit on the sidelines as our competitors and other industries who have PACs are participating in the political process," Mr. Martin said. He called GM's political action committee is "an effective means for our employees to pool their resources and have their collective voice heard."

Mr. Martin added that the company has supported members of both parties who "approach issues thoughtfully" and "support a strong auto industry."

GOP: A PLEDGE TO AMERICA

This is a great summary of what I hope are the intentions of all Republican candidates and those currently serving in Congress. It is about time that this ambitious program is placed in writing and that Congress be held accountable. Both Democrats and Republicans have committed grave crimes against the Constitution and the people. Hopefully the Republicans have seen the error of their ways and prevail in their efforts to retake Congress to repair our economy and get us back on the path to Constitutional stability.

Obama goes to church to hear a Muslim speaker!

FOX News on Sunday mentioned that the Obamas attended church for the third time during his Presidency. What was not mentioned was that the guest speaker at the Episcopal Church was a Muslim. I have no problem with Obama gaining as much information he can on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but I have three observations:

1. A Christian speaker would not be allowed in a Muslim Mosque.

2. Obama has used the "disruption" excuse to avoid church attendance in the past, why the exception here?

3. Speculation was that Obama attended the Episcopal Church to convince those that believe he is a Muslim that he really is a Christian. This doesn't do it for me.

Excerpt:
Yesterday, on Sunday, September 19, 2010, the Obama family attended church for only the third time in a year. They went on foot to the St. John’s Episcopal Church situated across the Lafayette Park.

But what is widely not reported by the White House and the MSM is that on that particular Sunday in that particular church, Dr. Ziad Asali, M.D., a Muslim, founder and president of the American Task Force on Palestine, was the guest speaker. He was there to speak on the subject of “Prospects of the two-state solution in the Middle-East.”

Unsustainable Cow Manure - Green Energy Not So Green (But Expensive)

Paul Driessen's article sets forth the most detailed argument against wind and solar energy I have read. The environmental damage and harm done to wildlife by the solar and wind farms is far greater than oil, gas, coal and nuclear sites combined. Add to this the fact that they are part time energy generators, are unreliable, and have the "made in China" label on them, you can see the lack of benefit to the good old USA.

Release the governmental restrictions on exploration and development here at home and you will stop the flow of hundreds of billions of dollars to our "friends" the Arabs, help solve the balance of payments deficit and create thousands of jobs here at home.

It is time that the small number of "green" nuts, who, through the Democrat party, are dictating these stupid anti-American policies, be relegated to the scrap heap so we can get our economy moving again.

Excerpt:
Seek a sustainable future! Wind, solar and biofuels will ensure an eco-friendly, climate-protecting, planet-saving, sustainable inheritance for our children. Or so we are told by activists and politicians intent on enacting new renewable energy standards, mandates and subsidies during a lame duck session.

It may be useful to address some basic issues, before going further down the road to Renewable Utopia.

First, when exactly is something not sustainable? When known deposits (proven reserves) may be depleted in ten years? 50? 100? What if looming depletion results from government policies that forbid access to lands that might contain new deposits – as with US onshore and offshore prospects for oil, gas, coal, uranium, rare earth minerals and other vital resources?

Andrew Breitbart Forces President Obama’s Protesters to Fold Up Shop

From Tammy Bruce: Buses to bring in union protestors: $500. Arts and craft materials for “Stop the Hate” signs: $250. Andrew Breitbart asking bused in protesters what those signs mean: Priceless.

Excerpt:
On Saturday, September 18th, Glenn Beck and Andrew Breitbart headlined an event entitled “Right Nation 2010,” held just outside of Chicago, Illinois.
As you will see in our video report from the scene, when Andrew Breitbart arrived at the Sears Centre, he was met with an angry mob of protesters who were calling for an ‘end to hate’ while also hurling expletives and homophobic slurs toward the targets of their enmity.
In the following dramatic video, Breitbart brings the protest to a complete halt by cleverly asking sign holders to do the impossible: explain the placards they were carrying. In the end, the frustrated organizers abruptly end their protest and leave.

GROVER NORQUIST: Keep It Real, Conservatives

In the article, Norquist settles on the deficit and spending as the winning issue for the Republicans in November. I think he misses the mood of the electorate by restricting his focus on just this one concern. The old saying "it's the economy, stupid" still is in effect. The economy, jobs and loss of our Constitutional freedoms should be added to the list. If we stick to giving the electorate answers to these concerns, then the Republicans will be swept to victory in November.

Excerpt:
Between now and the November 2 election there are several dangers that stand between conservatives and the overwhelming victory that present polls predict.

The first threat flows from complacency, hubris, laziness, a sense that victory is already ours. The polling data tell us that Americans want to vote for Republican more than Democrats, against those who voted for Obamacare and for those who oppose higher taxes. Of course, this assumes that “present trends continue.” If we work hard, harder and hardest then today’s cheerful polling data can be the harbinger of victory when real votes by real people are counted on November 2.

The second threat is that of distraction by “shiny things.” Many issues pop up and politicians and talk show hosts are intrigued and tempted to spend precious minutes talking about new and exciting issues rather than focus on the spending that threatens our future.

Repeal Of ObamaCare Faces Many Obstacles Even If Republicans Take Congress In 2010

Knowing it is an uphill battle to stop ObamaCare, Republicans are scrambling to come up with ways to stop funding for its implementation. Short of regaining the White House in 2012, repeal will be impossible.

Excerpt:
Want to kill the new health care law? Just starve it of cash and replace it with something else.

But there’s nothing simple about it.

Experts — and even some Republicans — say a GOP-controlled Congress next year would have to struggle to erase nearly $1 trillion in health reform spending over 10 years with the flick of a pen. Key parts of the bill, like new Medicaid entitlements, would require free-standing legislation, not merely routine changes during the appropriations process.

The only way the GOP can really deal a mortal blow is by taking back the White House in 2013, these Republicans say — but, even then, the clock would be running out, with the law well into its fourth year of implementation and just a year away from when major benefits kick in.

So despite the long odds, Republicans are zeroing in on a nibble-around-the-edges strategy — a long-term, but so far loosely defined, campaign to choke off funding piece by piece and weaken the law to the point that lawmakers feel they have no other choice but walking away from it.

Jim DeMint: Washington Can Hear You Now

The Tea Party, Beck, Palin and especially Jim DeMint of SC have helped to awaken independents and conservatives alike in a move to take back our country from the entitlement minded far left fringe of the Democrat party (uh! the whole Democrat party). In this article, Jim DeMint has set forth the basis for the "New" Republican party. Tea Partiers and Independents alike will support candidates who are true to these bedrock principles.

Excerpt:
For years, conservatives have been told that the only way to create a big-tent party was to support big-government candidates who were "electable," rather than principled. History suggests otherwise. Majorities are built on principles, not the other way around.

When that big tent came to Washington last September, everyone in it was yelling that they wanted less government, not more. Democrats mocked these voters and tuned them out, but liberty-minded Republican candidates tuned them in. As a result, races that were once considered unwinnable have flipped from "safe Democrat" to "lean Republican" this election cycle.

Thanks to the grass roots, Republicans have a slate of candidates who believe in constitutional, limited government. We will balance the budget, repeal the unconstitutional health-care takeover, create a predictable tax and regulatory environment in which businesses can create jobs, and restore a sense of fairness to the economy. This platform stands in stark contrast to the Democrats' record. They have racked up trillions in debt on bad legislative bets, picking winners and losers in almost every major market sector. Their policies created turmoil and uncertainty, not prosperity.

Washington can hear you now

Republicans Move to the Right - Tea Party is Catalyst

I read an article, "No More Leaven of Compromise" in the SF Examiner, written before the Republican primary win by Christine O'Donnell in Delaware, making the case for moving the party to a more conservative, right of center, ideology.

It has always been assumed and stated by the Republican establishment in Washington, that, for the Republican party to survive, it must move toward the center, and when necessary cross the aisle to gain the respect and cooperation of the Democrat liberals.

My two basic observations about this are: (1) no longer are there Democrat statesmen who would consider working with Republicans on any legislation that furthers a conservative cause, and (2) the majority of Republicans in Washington do not want to relinquish power. True conservatives do not believe in a central government that controls every aspect of our lives. If conservatives gain control, much of this power will be transferred from Washington to the States and the people.

Many Independents have been confused because, in many respects, especially in fiscal matters, both parties have looked a lot alike, and, I believe, the tipping point has been the abortion issue. Setting this issue aside, it is my opinion that the majority of Independents have more in common with true conservatism than with the far left beliefs of the current Democrat party. The Tea Party has awakened these Independents and is supporting Republican candidates that honor our Constitution.

Now may be the last chance for conservatives to make a difference and test the electorate to see if it understands the difference between the socialist society that the progressive/liberal Democrats so zealously promote, and individual freedom espoused in the Constitution and, hopefully pursued by the "new" Republicans in Congress.

From Across The Pond: 'Obama Has Underestimated the Frustration in the Country'

Read the article and see what the leading newspapers in Germany are saying about the Tea Party.

Excerpt:
The dramatic ascent of the Tea Party continued in America this week, with the conservative movement scoring another surprise victory in the Republican primary in Delaware. German editorialists digested the news on Thursday and warned that both Republicans and Democrats were right to feel uneasy.

Even a few weeks ago, it was considered impossible that the Tea Party favorite Christine O'Donnell would win the primary in Delaware. She was long seen as being too far to the right to woo enough votes. On Tuesday, such predictions were consigned to the trash when O'Donnell beat a veteran congressman to secure the Republican nomination in the Delaware race for the US Senate.

'Obama Has Underestimated the Frustration in the Country'

John Boehner, Obama's Current Whipping Boy Is No Elitist

John Boehner is not the most charismatic politician in Washington, but, having scored in the 90's on various conservative ratings scales in 2009, is someone that can be counted on to support our return to Constitutional government. Obama may yet regret picking a fight with Rep. Boehner.

Excerpt:
President Barack Obama is doing his best to turn Representative John Boehner, the House minority leader, into Public Enemy Number One. If Republicans win back the House of Representatives in November, as polls indicate, he will replace Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House.

In a recent speech, Mr Obama mentioned Mr Boehner by name nine times. A fundraising email sent out from BarackObama.com this week stated that corporate interests and lobbyists “have put all their chips on one man: Congressman John Boehner”.

Democrats have started a BeatBoehner.com website that claims he spent $1 million on "luxury hotels, exclusive golf resorts and gourmet dining for himself and his fat-cat contributors". On the I-75 freeway outside Cincinnati, a huge poster showing a tanned Mr Boehner playing golf accuses him of teeing off 119 times in a year.

Yet Mr Boehner's life story is the type of classic up-by-the-bootstraps tale of the American Dream that can put a tear in a voter's eye. As his story becomes better known, the Democrats could even be drawing favourable attention upon him. Right now, most Americans have never heard of Mr Boehner, and fewer still can pronounce his name, which rhymes with Rayner. The alleged elitist country club Republican is an Ohio Congressman who grew up in near poverty.

Constitution Day Was Yesterday 9/17 - Did Your Children Study Constitutional History?

Yesterday was Constitution Day. Did your children receive the teachings of the history of the Constitution as required by law. Bet most didn't. Please tell me about your child's experience.

Excerpt:
When a reporter for CNSNews asked House Speaker Nancy Pelosi last September if the Constitution allowed the federal government to require everyone to have health insurance or pay a fine, her response was, “Are you serious? Are you serious?”

That’s why we need a Constitution Day now more than ever!

The law establishing the Constitution Day holiday—previously known as Citizenship Day—was passed in 2004. Demonstrating that history has a sense of humor, the enabling legislation was introduced by the Senate’s king of pork-barrel spending: the late Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia. Even more ironic, he attached the legislation to an omnibus spending bill that spent taxpayer funds on countless earmarks, special interests and rent seekers.

In 2005 the Department of Education issued a notice informing all publicly funded schools that they would be required to teach their students about the history of the Constitution on September 17. In essence, the department was saying to the public schools: Teach your kids about the principles of freedom and independence and the virtues of limited government enshrined in the Constitution or we’ll pull your funding.

Barack Obama Is No James Madison

US Federal Budget Deficit

What the chart shows is the favorable effect of the Bush tax cuts after enactment in 2003 and also the unfavorable effect of the Democrat takeover of Congress in the later years of the Bush administration. The collapse, in 2008, of the housing market and financial firms that were heavily invested in sub prime mortgages happened over the persistent warnings by the Bush administration which were stonewalled by Democrats Chris Dodd and Barney Frank in Congress.

If you look at this chart, you have to wonder what the Obama agenda is for him to want to let the Bush tax cuts expire during a recession. One word "CONTROL".

L.A.: $111M in Stimulus Saved Just 55 Jobs

This FOX News article shows the waste of taxpayers and their children's money to shore up the Democrat union base. Nothing in the article says where the money actually went or whether or not the projects were completed. $2 million per job is a mite bit expensive in my book, but then I'm not a politician using OPM.

I was an auditor back in the 60's and spent some time auditing one of JFK's antipoverty boondoggles on the lower East Side of Manhattan. I commented at the time that there was no proof that any of the children in the program were better off at the end of the grant than before. If they had given each child $1 million, they would have been far better off and the program would have cost the taxpayer half. That is the way government works.

I had to laugh at the B- Wendy gave LA in using the funds to create jobs. Even Obama gave himself a B+.

Article:
More than a year after Congress approved $800 billion in stimulus funds, the Los Angeles city controller has released a 40-page report on how the city spent its share, and the results are not living up to expectations.

"I'm disappointed that we've only created or retained 55 jobs after receiving $111 million," said Wendy Greuel, the city's controller. "With our local unemployment rate over 12 percent we need to do a better job cutting red tape and putting Angelenos back to work."

According to the audit, the Los Angeles Department of Public Works spent $70 million in stimulus funds -- in return, it created seven private sector jobs and saved seven workers from layoffs. Taxpayer cost per job: $1.5 million.

The Los Angeles Department of Transportation created even fewer jobs per dollar, spending $40 million but netting just nine jobs. Taxpayer cost per job: $4.4 million.

Greuel blamed the dismal numbers on several factors:

1. Bureaucratic red tape: Four highway projects did not even go out to bid until seven months after they were authorized.

2. Projects that were supposed to be competitively bid in the private sector went instead went to city workers.

3. Stimulus money was not properly tracked within departments

4. Both departments could not report the jobs created and retained in a timely fashion..

"I would say maybe in a grade, a B- in creating the jobs," Greuel told Fox News. "They have started to spend those dollars but it took seven months to get some of those contracts out. We think in the city that we should move quickly and not in the same usual bureaucratic ways."

L.A.: $111M in Stimulus Saved Just 55 Jobs

Insider: “the President is Losing It.”

Ran across this article that, based on many peoples' observations, is totally believable; but since it is supposedly quoting an unnamed source, has to be looked at with some skepticism.

I have given you a short sample here of the "interview". It is very interesting and has garnered a number of comments both pro and con. Read the 2 part interview by clicking below. It will entertain you.

Excerpt:
A longtime Washington D.C. insider, and former advisor to the Obama election campaign and transition team, speaks out on an administration in crisis, and a president increasingly withdrawn from the job of President.

So if Obama doesn’t appear interested in the job of president, what does he do day after day?

Well, he takes his meetings just like any other president would, though even then, he seems to lack a certain focus and on a few occasions, actually leaves with the directive that be given a summary of the meeting at a later date. I hear he plays a lot of golf, and watches a lot of television – ESPN mainly. I’ll tell you this – if you want to see President Obama get excited about a conversation, turn it to sports. That gets him interested. You start talking about Congress, or some policy, and he just kinda turns off. It’s really very strange. I mean, we were all led to believe that this guy was some kind of intellectual giant, right? Ivy League and all that. Well, that is not what I saw. Barack Obama doesn’t have a whole lot of intellectual curiosity. When he is off script, he is what I call a real “slow talker”. Lots of ummms, and lots of time in between answers where you can almost see the little wheel in his head turning very slowly. I am not going to say the president is a dumb man, because he is not, but yeah, there was a definite letdown when you actually hear him talking without the script.

How Liberalism Leads to Slavery

Joe Leonardi wrote a great article on the effects of liberalism and the "cradle to grave" support mentality.

Excerpt:
Soon the United States will resemble much of Europe.

Upward mobility will be a thing of the past.

People will be locked into the class to which they are born.

Those that do not earn their way in our society will be placated with all the basic necessities of life. Their ability and desire to provide for themselves will no longer matter. They will have been stripped of inherent traits that made America, and Americans, the envy of the world.

When Stalin died much of the free world rejoiced in the departure of a ruthless, cold-blooded tyrant. However, the populace of the former Soviet Union wept in fear. They cried out, “who will take care of us?” They did not need to be beaten into submissive servitude. No, they were conciliated into it.

Will this be our dreadful, dire destiny? Do we yearn to be hand fed from cradle to grave; or do we “yearn to breathe free?”

Bush Tax Cuts - How Soon We Forget

I hope Art does not mind, but his letter to the editor in our local newspaper is right on and is something that has to be said. So here it is.

Bush tax cuts

How soon we forget.

The question that is being debated between the two political parties is whether the Bush tax cuts at the end of 2010 will be extended to all taxpayers, allowed to expire for all taxpayers, or allowed to expire for only the rich.

Whenever the term “Bush tax cuts” is uttered, Democratic policy makers and their cheerleaders in the nation’s media make it sound like an obscene expression.

Why aren’t the leaders of the Republican Party reminding our over-taxed, unemployed, and unsure-whether-they-will-have-a-job employees, retirees, or any other citizens that are on the tax rolls what exactly the Bush tax cuts accomplished?

Accomplishments

I guess our revered Republican Party leaders have a temporary memory loss or for the elderly leaders, a senior moment.

Therefore, I will contribute my free time for the good of the Republican Party in order to jolt everyone’s memory.

The 2001 Economic Growth and Recovery Tax Act was George Bush’s version of Obama’s stimulus plan.

However, instead of creating a bunch of temporary government jobs and subsidizing the expansion of government, it cut tax rates, increased the child tax credit, increased the standard deduction for married couples, and increased contribution caps for a variety of savings programs.

The result? The recession ended in November of 2001.

But, September 11, 2001 happened as the economy was recovering and throughout 2002, the economy grew at an anemic rate.

The Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003 revved up the 2001 tax cut package and cut taxes again on dividends and capital gains.

The result? What the Democrats and the media call “tax cuts for the rich” resulted in the rich paying more in taxes in 2005 than in any time in the prior 20 years.

Thanks to the much maligned George Bush, his tax cuts for the rich resulted in the richest one percent paying 25% of all income taxes in 1990 to 39% in 2005.

The richest 5% went from paying 44% of all income taxes in 1990 to paying 60% of all income taxes in 2005.

Likewise, after the 2003 tax cuts, the unemployment rate fell to the lowest level since World War II.

At that time, economists likened it to full employment given the demographic composition of those who were left on the unemployment line.

Reasons for the collapse

Why then the collapse we are suffering today?

There are lots of reasons for the collapse.

For one thing, contrary to what all economists would have you believe, they are not scientists and the economy is not a science.

Think about the past.

There have been upturns and downturns in the economy since economies first developed several hundreds of years ago.

Also, massive new regulations in Sarbanes-Oxley and the Dowd-Frank corruption in Freddie and Fannie into private lending markets forcing private lenders to launch risky ventures to stay profitable led to a lot of schemes collapsing in on themselves and taking the economy out too.

That has nothing to do with the Bush tax cuts.

The Bush tax cuts, objectively, helped the economy both recover from the 2000-2001 recession and spur some of the greatest economic activity the nation has ever seen.

Risks involved

In their efforts to end the Bush tax cuts during a prolonged recession, the Democrats risk making the economy worse and introducing greater uncertainty into the market.

Making the economy worse is exactly what the radical Democratic/Progressives want.

They are out to “fundamentally remake America” and to do that they have to “introduce greater uncertainty into the market.”

Voters, remember this in November, and in years — even decades to come.

We have to get rid of not only the politicians who want to destroy this country, but also the bureaucrats who support their plans.

If we do not remain strong economically, militarily, politically, and religiously, we are doomed.

As soon as we are weak enough, or perceived to be weak enough, the attacks will come from all who envy our prosperity or hate our freedoms.

NOW THAT’S CLASS WARFARE!

Tea Party: Is this the start of the 2nd American Revolution?

The Brits have a unique view of the American scene and see, in the Tea Party, a major change in the political climate here in the US. On FOX News today, Rasmussen reported that he believes the Tea Party will be strong enough to elect the President in 2012.

Getting back to this article, the writer believes that the Tea Party could not take hold in Britain. Look again, in the news today, the Tea Party is taking hold in Australia.

People around the free world are fed up with governments usurping individual freedoms and sapping the strength out of our economies through taxation and redistribution to the "less fortunate", mainly non-productive (read"lazy")citizens and illegals. It is time to return to the values of our forefathers and the Tea Party appears to be the vehicle to get us there.

Excerpt:
They want to purify their party and their country, returning America to the honest, founding traditions of thrift, small government and self-reliance from which, they say, it has strayed.

And, like the protesters from whom they take their name (the Bostonians who demonstrated against British taxation by dumping tea into the city’s harbour in 1773), the Tea Party rebels are - by their own account - as ‘mad as hell’.

But whether they are a bunch of dotty extremists or not, the Tea Party phenomenon suddenly poses a serious threat.

While Right-wing resentment of the Obama administration has been simmering since he was elected, his government’s $700 billion bank bailout, an even bigger recovery package and his healthcare reforms have proved tipping points for Tea Partiers.

A deep sense of alarm over America’s apparently declining world status can also be stirred into the pot of grievances.

A Tea Party rally in Washington last weekend was typical of thousands across the country — lots of flag waving (particularly of the Tea Party banner, emblazoned with the words Don’t Tread On Me) and signs demanding lower taxes and government spending.

‘I may be a redneck but I know how to balance a checkbook (sic),’ read one of the messages.
